Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need a referral?
You do not require a referral to access counselling at Sanctuary Wellness Australia. If you have a Medicare Card and would like to access the Better Access Initiative, you will need a Mental Health Care Plan referral from a local general practitioner to access the rebate.
Does Sanctuary Wellness Australia offer telehealth/online appointments?
Yes! We offer phone and video consultations. The practitioner will send through a video link the week before your session. We can always adjust the style of session if you woud like a mix of face-to-face, video or phone consultations.
What can I expect at my first session of counselling?
It is really common to feel a little nervous about the first session. During the initial session, the practitioner will typically ask what brought you to therapy and your general intentions. This will then guide further discussions.
This is a great time to ask the practitioner about their professional background or any specific questions you might have, to make sure that they feel like a good fit for you! We also offer a free 15-minute introductory phone conversation if you'd like to get to know the practitioner prior to the initial session.
What is your cancellation policy?
There is a charge of 50% for appointments that are rescheduled or cancelled within 48 hours of the session. This fee does not include if you are wanting to change from face-to-face to video/phone consult. The fee is not covered under Medicare or Private Health.
Do you offer Medicare rebates or Private Health cover?
Yes, we offer Medicare Rebates under the Better Access Initiative with a rebate of up to $106.05. You will need to go to your local GP and request a long appointment. They will then ask you a few questions about your mental health and either directly email the referral to sanctuarywellnessaus@outlook.com or you can bring the copy along to your session.
The Private Health Covers that are included under Mental Health Social Workers include:
-
HCF
-
Doctors Health
-
St Lukes Health
-
Australian Regional Health Group Ancillary Provider Accreditation Service
Please consult with your Private Health Cover to calculate the amount that you will receive. We do not process the repayment in the clinic.
Is the clinic accessible to those with physical disabilities?
The clinic is located on level 1 however, there is lift access and a ramp at the front of the building. The door to access the lift is quite heavy however, we can ensure that it is secured open prior to your session.
